Up above but down under
Much talk has been going on about cricket, with the furor of the World Cup having gone down a little, and the bludgeoning entry of political gimmicks back into common pace, a number of similarities have erupted in my mind regarding the duo, that I’ll explain below:
Shahid Afridi: Much like the PPP, with an impeccably enchanting past, a promising figure indeed that people fawn over and rightly so because of the charisma and potential he portrays. But just like the PPP, the past has become the reason for the present and possibly the future too with no current performances to justify the superstardom he undergoes.
Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal: Like the PMLN, giving tangible performances every now and then to solidify their stint in the team, have true potential yet refuse to consistently perform in a manner deemed appropriate.
Younis Khan: Like the MQM, threatens his way into the team. Performs when given long spans of time but old and boisterous enough to leave before kicked out forcefully.
Sarfaraz Ahmed: Like the PTI, having to cope with the taunts of being inexperienced and naïve, yet when thrusted forward, performs in a manner, slow but with lasting impact.
Misbah ul Haq: Like the army, always turned to for help yet always criticized and abused for being the only authority standing till the last ball. Occasionally gets out on cheap shots, yet on the most part is probably the only reliable tenet of the team.
Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal: Like the honest, capable bureaucrats, politicians, public officials etc. whose true potential frightens the opponents so much so that they’re banned from even entering the real contests.
The fast bowlers/pacers: Like the true sons of the soil, Aitzaz Hasan, Malala, Arifa Kareem, Tahira Qazi(APS Peshawar Principal), the thousands slained in terrorist activities etc., always the one splayed forth to save the day, with their hard work, their sacrifices.
And finally the spectators like us awaam, who sit out there enjoying/cussing the ones involved, analyzing and suggesting numerous ways for improvement but failing to jump into the ground or rationally involve themselves for the betterment of the team/ country
