A lot of people were roaming on beach to give a warm welcome to Nilofar before it vanishes out in intensity now if you are thinking of lady paying a visit on Karachi coast well, you are misinformed it was a cyclone which was due to hit the coastal areas of Karachi and it did hit the Karachi on 30 oct 2014.But with dying breaths though it was a strong and dangerous storm when it started. The cyclone was named as NILOFAR meaning water Lilly, new name, and new topic for all of us and for social media lovers.
Some people are praying to GOD ,and some even dig fun out of it making jokes referring its name.As it was kind of a new thing in our country and we never had any experience facing a cyclone before so most of the people were unaware by the gravity of the situation. Seriously if you ask me, it’s not a joke editing the cyclone picture with a lady name Nilofar, holding gun in hands.
Let me tell you something serious which you guys are ignoring, Government declared emergency in five districts of Karachi, besides Thatta, sujhawal,Badinand Tharparkar .They also announced holidays in public and private schools. The pressure of cyclone towards karchi was not so severe ,but it could be intensified . The cyclone would enter in the coastal boundaries of Sindh and Balochistan . In news Karachites were suggested by authorities to stay indoors as the cyclone would be followed by heavy rains and gusty winds which could root out trees, electricity polls or bill boards.
The Local tax department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) was directed to remove all the billboards on emergency basis. People living in villages along the coastline and on the island such as Baba Bhit, Irahim Hydri, Rahri, Mubarak Goth and Hawksbay have been provided shelter in government buildings.
Government made arrangement for their housing and food was free of cost .Now just think for a while about those people who are living near the coastal areas in shelter house .We all are living in pacca makan’s and luxury apartments some of them are earthquake proof ,water proof. I feel so ashamed when I see such pictures and funny post about NILOFAR .
Close your eyes and think ,who created you can do anything beyond your imagination .If Cyclone cross the boundaries of Karachi , what will happen? please it’s a request to all ,not because I am scared ,no i am scared for those who live near the coastal areas. But one good thing which we can extract is the experience taught by this cyclone to our authorities as it was like a drill to upcoming danger.
