Mom Mom, this is ramzaan right?
“Yes it is, and betaa, you should call it “Ramadan”… with a “Duaad”… not just Ramzaan… okay mera bachaa?”
“Okay mom……”Mom why do we fast for 30 days this month?”
“Because its in our Quran, and Hadees beta, we learn Sabar and Shukar through it”
“okay so everybody will become a good person this month right?”
“Yes beta this month is a holy month… people go to Masjids for long prayers, people Fast all day, people pay alot of Sadqaas, they become good people… this month is not to be spent in ignorance… we should take out time for our religious rituals”
“Mom you mean we can’t lie, cheat, disobey ALLAH or waste our time playing or just sitting around or playing games etc ? ”
“Yes betaa we shouldn’t… this is a holy month… all people leave these things and just keep praying and fasting… they dont commit sin”
…..”Mom look look people are shouting outside and saying bad words about our family ”
“Betaa don’t look at them”
“Mom why?”
“Betaa i threw 2 buckets of kachraa from our gallery, which fell on that man’s car, so he is shouting!”
“Mom why did you do that?”
“Why? where do we throw our kachraa beta? we have to throw it outside naa?”
“but mom, why cant we throw it somewhere where nobody’s hurt and people don’t get angry?
“chhup hojaao beta tumhen pataa nahi hai kuch bhi!”
…..”Mom, where are we going?”
“Beta we re going to an Aftar transmission show”
“Mom what is gonna happen there?”
“Beta they will pray before Aftaar, then we will offer maghrib prayer there, then we will chit chat with people there, and then come back home!”
“Okay we all will pray together?”
“Yes betaa … told you na this is a holy month!”
…”Mom who was there on phone?”
“betaa it was you khala”
“Mom why did you tell her that we aren’t home? we are home actually”
“Betaa we will go on the Aftar tv show naa”
“But mom that will happen in an hour…”
“Yes beta if i had told her she would have asked to come with us and i don’t want that”
“But mom what was wrong in that? Why did u have to lie? it is Ramzaan right? we shouldn’t be lying”
“betaa chhup karo ofooh peechey parr jatey ho har baat ke, drama dekhhney do mujhe khamoshi se!”
…….. “Mom what is he doing?”
“Betaa he is arranging competitions between different people so that whoever wins, gets some prizes”
“Mom but why is he making that person eat a mango forcefully? Isn’t that wrong? you told me we shouldn’t eat in such a dirty way…”
“Beta its just a game… he is giving us prizes”
“Mom but why is he arranging such games? this is the month of Ramzaan right? he and all of us should be praying shouldn’t we? ”
“Beta its “Ramadan”
“ammmm… oh yes,,,, mom its RAMADAN… why is he doing such things in Ramadan? you told me we don’t do such things in Ramdan, we only pray and fast and do good deeds”
“Betaa thorri derr chup hojaao, he is coming towards us… he might give us a gift”
…”Mom who are you screaming at… he is gone towards the next row ?”
“Ohh beta i missed that hamper in his hand, he was distributing those free… ohh i missed it”
“Mom why is there so much noise here… you told me people become good people during this month, but why are they pushing each other just to get those gifts? can we do this in Ramadan?”
“Beta chhup hojaao aaj kal buhat sawaal puuchney lagey ho! ghar chal ke theek karungi tumhen… ek to gift bhi koi nahi milaa, koi faida nahi huaa aaney ka!”
“But mom we came for prayers and namaaz?”
“We will pray when we get home…now shut up, chhup karkey bus mein bettho ziaada shhor karogey to tumhara bhi kiraaya denaa parrega! “
