Pakistan cricket team’s T20 captain Shahid Khan Afridi on Friday said that his role model in life is the country’s former military ruler Zia-ul-Haq and he is only following the ‘great army general’s example’.
Irked by the popular demand for his retirement and some former players suggesting that he does not deserve his place in the team, Afridi, through an emergency press conference, clarified that he is ‘deeply impressed by Zia-ul-Haq and will not retire or shed his uniform on popular demand or pressure’.
“And like Zia-ul-Haq, only a plane crash can keep me out of the Pakistan cricket team, pray for that if you hate me,” announced the 36 year old cricketer.
Speaking on the occasion, PCB chairman Hoshiar Khan too supported Afridi and said that the board has decided to make Afridi, Pakistan cricket team’s ‘captain for life’.
‘Arabian Sea for Pak-India clash’
Answering a question about the Pakistan India World T20 clash, Hoshiar said that PCB and BCCI have decided to ‘leave Dharamshala and Mohali alone and announce Arabian Sea as the venue for the March 19 clash’.
Khan was of the view that this way, both teams can play at home and there will be no threat of a terror attack, as so far no terror group has reached the place from where Pakistan and India arrest fishermen.
“It would be easier and safer to drown than facing angry fans, for the loser of the match,” said Hoshiar Khan, who could not stop talking about the merits of the decision.
