NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION (NGO)

The term non-governmental organization (NGO) normally refers to organizations that are neither a part of a government nor conventional for-profit businesses. Usually set up by ordinary citizens for social moral development. Simply all the organizations like Masque Madrasa and the other organizations are NGOs but here in Pakistan only those organizations are NGOs whose money is like (Mali Ghanimat).

NGOs may be funded by governments, foundations or international donors for the welfare of the people of less developed countries in the world

International non-governmental organizations have a history dating back to at least 1839, across the world; the number of internationally operating NGOs is around 40,000. Around 500 Non-Governmental organizations are registered in KP Pakistan.

Years back after the earth quick in 2005 most of the people in KP registered their own NGOs and started helping the earth quick victims on different areas of KP and AJK. The CEOs or the owner were lucky enough as the entire KP province became the victim of militancy in 2009/10 and then a powerful flood hit the country from Swat to Karachi, it was the best time for the nongovernmental organization in Pakistan, mostly the international organization were working but due to some security concerns they handed over all the dollars to the local NGOs and were getting the filled paper against each activity, here the INGOs are either sincere or fool enough, they should verify each and every activity carried out, but they were just receiving the filled papers against funds.

In Swat after the flood and militancy hundred of NGOs and INGOs worked for years but in the ground only few archived their goals and impact, In my own village Kedam Bahrain an international organization worked before a year as Cash for work worth of two billion rupees but today even there are no signs of work in the area. During the field work there was only one supervisor for hundred people, he was just filling the attendance sheet along with daily reports, this is what he needed, while the labor just killed the time while doing no physical activity.

Instead of this if the organization constructed a school in the area as there were no schools after the flood so it will be a solid prove of work but they just need to represent papers before the donors. The international donor agencies should own a policy of physical check up of each dollar which they donate for the development of this sleeping nation.

So far it seemed that only few NGOs contributed in the field of education while rest of them are working on hard components like constructions and rehabilitation of the flood affected areas, near to my opinion hard components are less important than the soft, here soft components means Education, if I will apply it on my area where the literacy late is below 2% for girls, here needs more schools and teacher to fight against the ignorance.

All the NOGs need to assist the impact of their work after two or three years to see the change in the community; they should further strengthen their policies and procedures if there is any lack.

The donor agencies also need to demand the means of verifications for which they are funding, at least we could differentiate between Governmental and nongovernmental organization,

Not only the donors but the stakeholders can contribute a lot in this regards if they want, they the visit the grounds of any project , Examples of project stakeholders include the community people, the user group, the  project team including all those people who can affect directly or indirectly of the project

So let’s promise not to waste our time, money and paper….
