The Sad Incident of Mardan
“But whoever kills a believer intentionally – his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him and has cursed him and has prepared for him a great punishment.” –Surah An- Nisa 4:93
Yet again, a 23 year old journalism student, Mashal Khan of Abdul Wali Khan University has been made a target of mob lynching and cold blooded murder. #MashalKhan and #Mardan have been the top trending trends in Pakistan today.
Mashal Khan was stripped, beaten, shot, and thrown from the second floor of his hostel sources at the university said. A group of about 10 students shouted slogans during the attack on fellow student with planks until his skull caved in as other students looked on.
Men could be seen kicking his lifeless body. Later on, he was pulled from his clothes by an unidentified man.
The main question is: What led to all of this? What was a crime so big that lead to a human being killed like a lifeless creature? A suspicion?
The mob “suspected” their fellow student of having committed blasphemy. Yes. No proof. No evidence. Just like in the case of the young Christian couple in Pakistan who was beaten by a mob and then incinerated at a brick factory while they were still alive.
A judgement based on their understanding of Mashal Khan’s Facebook posts.
“Blasphemy is yet to be confirmed,” K-P IG Salahuddin Mehsud had told media.
All this in the name of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the man who was sent as mercy to all mankind, not just Muslims.
The extent of Holy Prophet (PBUH) selflessness can be seen from the example of His preaching in the valley of Taif, where people led naughty children to throw stones at Him while He was preaching.
He was all covered in blood. But still He did not complain to Allah about Him, rather one of His companions narrates:
“The Prophet (PBUH) resembled a Prophet who was harmed by His people. He wiped the blood from His face and said: ‘O God! Forgive my people, for they know not!” (Bukhari)
Muslims killing fellow Muslims in the name of religion but failing to follow one percent of what had been sent to us by Allah through the Holy book and preached to us by His Prophet (PBUH) is sad to say the least.
59 suspects have been arrested from the site according to Mardan District Police Officer DrMianSaeed.
The father of Mashal Khan said that his son would talk about the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) with the family members at home. His prime focus was on education.
Humans are referred as, “Ashraf-ul-Makhlooqaat” (superior to other creations) in the Holy Quran. May they be guided to the right path and fulfill the purpose they were created for.
