Minorities in Pakistan, Victims of Terrorism

“You are free; you are free to go to your temples. You are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion, caste or creed—that has nothing to do with the business of the State.”

― Muhammad Ali Jinnah

On 14th august 1947 Pakistan came into being, although the ideology of Pakistan was based on Islam but as Jinnah quoted every human being was free to live and practice their religion. Unfortunately if we see today sectarian killing and ehtnicism is one of the most notable crimes these days in this country. Every day in the incidents of targeted killings in the unfortunate metropolitan city Karachi there is news of the death of many prominent minority personalities. Unlike India if we compare our history with them the events of bloodshed or massacre on the basis of racism or religion is quite low.

For the past 12 years Pakistan is the victim of WAR ON TERROR. Suicide blasts and forced imposition of Taliban’s Sharia is what we are facing. There is no doubt that a terrorist or terrorism has no religion, the recent Peshawar church blast has provoked insecurity and a wave of ehtnicism in Pakistan.

What I think is that such incidents are a part of the plan by the terrorists to create tension among people of different sects and religion which can help them in implementing the strategy of divide and rule.

Let’s have a glimpse of various attacks by the terrorists only in the year 2013 to target minorities just to create a sense of insecurity among the citizens.

Pakistan carries a very important geographic and political location in the globe. After the 9/11 this country is facing numerous challenges. After the recent election of 11 may 2013, two major political parties which came into the government are PML (N) and PTI both the parties are considered centre right wing political parties. The recent initiative by the government and the political parties of dialogue with the Taliban seems to be a complete failure when just a day after the release of a Taliban commander the incident of Peshawar Church blast occurred.

All the political parties need to build a concrete policy to deal this wave of terrorism which has specially affected the minorities in the country and building a wall amongst the people of different sects and religions in this country.
