Aamir Liaquat – You are a disgrace

Ever since I have seen the telecast of the Ramadan program of Aamir Liaquat, I have been mentally disturbed and sleep now seems a far cry. The fact that I already hate mangoes is completely irrelevant. But now I have a definite disliking for them.

I am astonished at the fact that people are silent about this matter. Why? Just because they are getting  ‘gifts’? Since when do q-mobiles and firdous lawns make-up for our dignity and self-respect?

Previously when I used to watch his Aman Ramadan, Aalim Online kind of shows I took it positively that they are serving as a means to enlighten people about the importance of Ramadan, fasting and having ethical and moral standards. But with shows like Inaam Ghar and Pakistan Ramadan, I feel nauseous. He is using his power – over the people – to insult these people who come on to his show. He brings them to his level – which has proven to be real low – and then rubs it in their faces that he is better than them – as if.

What I fail to understand is that why do we give him the leverage to disgrace us like this? Is this the level of our desperateness for entertainment that we stack away our intellect and common sense in a corner and switch on the televisions to look at him making fun of our nation? And the sad part is, we are letting him do so. I don’t understand that how our people – and why too – have stooped to a level so low that they are now equal to this guy who believes he has the right to insult everyone.

Last year when he had insulted Tahir Shah (Singer who brought us the famous eye – to – eye) everybody went ballistic. It was so appalling to everyone that Aamir Liaquat has brought shame to us. What about now? When he is insulting people by shoving mangoes down people’s throats – and they are letting him do so! – isn’t this an insult? Isn’t this equally, if not more, disgusting?

We as a nation are moving towards this. By ‘this’ I mean:

1- We let people run over us and are too busy to even notice.

2- We watch whatever that is shown to us without questioning it.

3- We are wearing blinkers on our heads without even noticing – so we’re horses or at least an equivalent to them. No offense to the horses.

4- We let people like Aamir Liaquat rule our media when in fact he should be kept away from it as far as possible.

5- We feel bad for ourselves and yet do nothing about it.

6- We cry over social media and use it as a platform to rant about things. Forgetting the matter once a certain amount of likes has reached or till something new comes along to rant about.

7- We are disgusted by Aamir Liaquat – most of us – and yet switch on the television every evening and watch him insult everyone all over again.

8- Our routine has become something like: Get up – Rant – Post on Facebook – Sleep – Repeat.

9- We protested for Gaza and cried for the genocide and hashtagged every single Israeli and yet we do nothing about our own current situation.

10- You are going to read this blog and forget about it in the next 30 minutes – minimum. Maximum? I give it a day.

This blog is not just another rant. It’s a plea. We need to stop letting people like Aamir Liaquat rule over our intellects and let him treat us like this. The best we can do is stop watching his show. If he doesn’t have an audience to entertain, he is bound to disappear – eventually.
