Silent victims of Drone Attacks
Pakistan and US relationship has faced major ups and downs since the tragic incident of 9/11. It won’t be unjustified to say that the ties are improving as proven by the recent visit of John Kerry, the Secretary of State to Pakistan. However the popular debate of drone attacks is still in mid-air.
The Pakistani politicians have requested US through Mr John Kerry to kindly stop the on-going drone attacks but he has denied this request and said that they will continue their practice. Now, the question arises that are these droning attacks really important and should they continue till the end?
It has been 8 years since the first bomb dropped on the plains northern Pakistan. It has killed, injured and destroyed many things such as; families, homes and the beauty Pakistan holds. The US states that this war is against the TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban) and terrorism. Yes, these drone attacks help kill the militants but what about the civilians? How can anyone justify the murder of women and children who are oblivion of the political scenario yet they become a part of the probable drone war?
It is the unpredictability that prevails in the heart of many innocents as they continue the struggle to stay alive and hope to see another dawn. Does America have no voice against this inhumanity? But it is rightly supported that it is an action to get rid of Taliban. In 2010, there were 90 incidents which killed 831 and injured more than 85 people. The most recent attack was in Shawal Valley of North Waziristan Agency in FATA on 28th July 2013 that killed 8 militants. Since 2005 till 2013 approximately 2500-3500 people have been killed but how can one prove that all were militants? Why does the innocent have to pay a price of life and for what?
In my opinion, these drone attacks should be stopped because they will not aid to reach a conclusion. What is needed is a proper political dialogue to solve a problem, bombarding a country would not lead to betterment of any country. I plea the US government to kindly stop these drone attacks, many lives are being taken away brutally. Would US be silent if it had been a victim of such attacks?
